Utolanis Notebook
The Perspective

Behind the Journal

Utolanis Notebook is an independent editorial publication focused on everyday nutrition practices and weight awareness. The publication is not affiliated with any commercial, governmental, or institutional body. It is produced by a small group of qualified nutrition professionals working from central London.

01 — Origin

How the Notebook Began

The notebook started as a personal record kept during a period of sustained attention to daily food habits. The editor, Eleanor Whitfield, had been noting her own meals, movement patterns, and weight observations in a physical journal for several years before recognising that the accumulated record had editorial value beyond its personal use.

The transition from personal log to publication was gradual. Additional writers joined when the scope of topics expanded to include seasonal produce patterns, plant-based eating approaches, and the intersection of physical activity with food choice. The Utolanis Notebook name was chosen to signal the primary format: a notebook, not a directive.

Each article on this publication begins from an observational position. Writers record what they see, what the research literature says, and what the food journal reveals over time. The editorial standard is accuracy and restraint: no overclaiming, no simplification, no advice that could not be supported by documented nutritional evidence.

How We Approach Each Entry

Observational First

Every article begins from a documented observation, not a hypothesis to be confirmed. The record leads; interpretation follows.

Evidence-Informed

Content is selected based on published nutritional research and reviewed for editorial accuracy by a second editor before publication.

No Commercial Influence

Utolanis Notebook does not accept advertising, sponsored content, or affiliate arrangements that could influence editorial selection.

Transparent Corrections

Where an article requires correction after publication, the correction is noted publicly within the article itself, with the original date retained.
